About The Band

"The Mars Hill Porch Pickers" Bluegrass Band was started by Painter Dickson Lester in the Fall of 1992 as an outreach to youth in the community of the Mars Hill Presbyterian Church, Acworth. After the Youth went off to college Dickson continued to use the group to play for retirement homes and other special events in the community around Cobb County inlcuding Acworth, Kennesaw, Dallas, Cartersville and many other locations. They have since put on or played at concerts in Powders Springs, Blue Ridge, The Blue Ridge Rail road, Raccoon Creek, Acworth Opry, Everett's Music Barn, Heritage at Brookstone and many others. Just recently they were filmed for a TV show "The Best Of America By Horse Back- in Lyons, Ga. that was recently aired on RFD TV on August 8, 2005.

The Porch Pickers have also played for our Troops at Fort Riley in Kansas recently and that show will air December 23 and 25 on the same RDF televsion broadcast.   Look for our separate tab for more information regarding the Fort Riley Christmas Show.
